The zwickelbier style gets its name from the side port on a fermenter used by brewers to pour samples of beer (aka Zwickelhahn). Originating in Austria’s oldest brewery, Brauerei Hofstetten, which dates back to 1229, zwickelbier was a post WW2 style brewed with hops protected by Austrian farmers from the Nazis who were seeking to wipe out non-German crops. Smooth, light bodied lager with balanced bitterness.

First displayed at the 1897 World’s Fair in Brussels, krieks (translating to ‘cherry’ in Belgian) later gained popularity after WWI with the rise of soft drinks and increased regulations placed on brewers. Very subtle notes of cherry with similarities to saison ales.

Our newest SMASH (Single Malt and Single Hop) IPA brewed with Willow Creek hops and pilsner malt. Strong notes of citrus with a lingering hop bitterness.

Double named for the pioneering history of Chico, CA in the gold rush and the pioneering spirit of Ken Grossman, founder of Sierra Nevada, who first popularized the American Pale Ale back in the 80s. Brewed with classic Cascade hops and pale malt. Mildly hoppy with a sweet malt profile and lingering hop finish.

Our Pro-Am brew for this year’s Beer City Brewers Fest brewed with local home brewer Mark Hofmann. French-Belgian in origin, Grisettes (gris meaning grey in French) was originally brewed for stone miners in Belgium’s Hainaut province. Farmhouse funky with Belgian bubblegum yeast esters. Sweet with a dry finish.

Named after the 70/30 grist, or grain bill, being 70% wheat and 30% barley, and the filtration process making the beer crystal clear. Krystal Grist is a crisp ale with notes of banana, clove, and orange.

Credited with bringing lager yeast to America from Bavaria, home brewer John Wagner is also known for doling out his ground breaking yeast to what would become some of the biggest domestic breweries still around today. One brewer in particular that benefitted was Phillip Best whose brewery eventually won a famous blue ribbon.  Crisp and pale with slightly sweet malt character. Herbal notes with a dry finish.

In celebration of Día de los Muertos, Dead in the Lauter is a Dark Mexican Lager with biscuity caramel notes, medium body, and a dry yet soft mouthfeel.  On draft and in cans!

As the story goes, the recipe for Scottish Heather Ale was held by the Pict people. When they were all but wiped out, save for a father and son, the father vowed to take the recipe to the grave almost effectively erasing the style from history. However, remnants of an ancient vessel containing the ale were found and analyzed allowing the style to live on. Take It To The Grave is best slightly warm, giving notes of heather flower, caramel, and full malt character.  On draft and in cans!

Originally brewed at Guinness’ St. James’s Gate brewery in Dublin, the Foreign Extra Stout was made for Irish expats working in the Caribbean, made with extra hops and a higher alcohol content to help preserve the beer on its long journey overseas. James’s Gate is a medium bodied stout with pronounced roasted malt notes and a lingering flavor.

The Duke of Bavaria was ultimately the reason for the Reinheitsgebot, otherwise known as the German Purity Law, effectively putting out of production brews such as the Kottbusser. Brewed with the traditional wheat, oats, honey, and molasses, The Duke Says Nein is a gold medal award-winning clean ale with Kölsch yeast. Light and refreshing. On draft and in cans!

Inspired by the Māori name for New Zealand’s highest mountain, Aoraki Mt. Cook, this lager is brewed with New Zealand hops emitting tropical flavors and aromas. Crisp, clean, mild hop bitterness. On draft and in cans!

Named after West Coast IPA’s creator Fritz Maytag, Fritz’s Folly is brewed and dry hopped with traditional Cascade hops for bittering and aroma with a medium-bodied malt profile. On draft and in cans!

A Scottish table beer, this ale has an evolving past. First categorized as a pale, this roasted, malty beer is anything but. With a low hop bitterness and a slew of different malts, this ale will transition your tastebuds into cozy weather. 

Kränz (meaning wreath) references the picturesque tray of Kölsch-filled stange glasses served at brewhouses in Cologne, Germany. This light ale, nicely balanced with malts and hops, is a favorite here at Archival. Served in a traditional stange glass. On draft and in cans!

An ode to Archival’s true MVP and a real ‘Jack of All Trades’, this pale ale has a mild hop bitterness crafted with Newport and Golding hops. Low maltiness with a traditional mix of pale English base malts.
